Cahill Speaker Series

The Cahill Lecture at the University of Notre Dame was established by the family of 1959 University alumnus and benefactor Frank Cahill to honor his memory and commitment to ethical behavior and integrity. The annual Frank Cahill Lecture in Business Ethics features chief executives and industry leaders discussing key issues facing business today.

2024 Cahill Speaker

This year we are welcoming Geoffrey Friesen who is speaking on Finance in the Common Good.

Professor Friesen is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Nebraska.  His research interests include behavioral finance, investments, and business ethics.  Some of his early research focused on the role of human cognition in decision making, measuring how actual decisions depart from "rational" behavior.  More recently his research has examined the philosophical assumptions embedded in definitions of "rational financial behavior", and whether those assumptions are consistent with the Christian understanding of the human person.  One thing he has recently been thinking a lot about is the role of financial models in forming our worldviews, influencing our decisions and thus shaping our shared future.  Professor Friesen is a recovering actuary who enjoys fly fishing, cooking, basketball, golf and reading history.  He and his wife live in Lincoln, NE and are parents of 12 children.

Join us on October 3rd at 4 P.M. in Debartolo Hall 101. This event is free and open to the public.
