About

The Mendoza College of Business understands that business has a moral purpose. More than just profit generators, businesses also can make the world a better place. The Business Ethics and Society Program is a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about elevating business as a force for good to create a more just and humane world.

Here, business faculty and practitioners engage students beyond technical skills with such questions as:

  • What is the moral purpose of business, and how can we fulfill our vocation through it?

  • How can business contribute to a more just, humane, inclusive and sustainable world?

  • How can we ensure that everyone, especially those with the greatest needs, benefits from business?

  • How can we conduct business ethically and grow as virtuous individuals?

Inspiring Ethical Leaders

The program is dedicated to preparing students to lead with integrity and purpose. We challenge learners to reflect deeply on their role in the world and to see business as a force for good by:

  • Engaging with questions of ethics and society

  • Stepping out of the conventional path and considering the bigger picture

  • Becoming a more creative, flexible business leader, ready to face a rapidly changing world

  • Growing into a leader who not only excels in business but also contributes to the greater good

Integrating Catholic Social Thought

BESP’s community fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty and students, promoting a holistic approach to business education. Drawing on the rich tradition of Catholic social thought, we encourage students to ask not only how we do things, but why. In a world often focused on maximizing profit, we emphasize the importance of meaning, purpose, and the common good. Our program invites participants to consider big questions about identity and their place in the world, helping them to grow both professionally and personally.
